PHOTOS, VIDEO: Budapest’s new metro station completed, metro service changes significantly
On the afternoon of 23 January, the renovation project of the Budapest metro lines is to reach a new milestone. Next Monday, the renewed Ferenciek tere and Deák Ferenc tér metro stations will be opened, so the M3 subway will transport passengers on a much longer line than now. Meanwhile, we acquired a video and some photos to show what the new Deák Ferenc station will look like. We can tell you in advance that the renovated station will be breathtaking.
Budapest’s metro service will change
According to the bkk.hu, Budapest’s public transport company, passengers may use the M3 metro line from next Monday between the Kőbánya-Kispest metro station and Deák Ferenc tér, the heart of Budapest’s downtown. Furthermore, the Deák Ferenc tér is also where the M2 metro line meets the M3 line so passengers will be able again to change from next week.
Meanwhile, metro replacement buses will provide service between the Deák Ferenc tér and the Göncz Árpád városközpont stations. Moreover, the M3 metro line will not stop on Nagyvárad tér due to unfinished reconstructions. However, even after 23 January, you will have to use a metro replacement bus between the Göncz Árpád városközpont and Kőbánya-Kispest metro stations after 9 pm on weekday evenings and at weekends. The M3 metro will serve the stations between the Göncz Árpád városközpont and Újpest központ stations.
This is what the new metro station will look like
The M3 metro line is Hungary’s most popular one. The renovation aims to renew the infrastructure and create accessible stations and a modern Budapest metro. Based on the plans, the renovation project of the M3 metro line is to be completed by 2023 summer. The project started in 2017 autumn with the northern section. From March, the metro is expected to commute on the line except for Lehel tér and Nagyvárad tér stations. These two will rejoin the system in May.
According to the Hungarian News Agency (MTI), the renewed Deák Ferenc tér metro station will represent a “contemporary atmosphere”. Its colours will be blue, yellow and turquoise. The tubular spaces will remind each passenger of the slide parks, BKV said. The inauguration of the metro station is scheduled for the early afternoon next Monday.
Based on their statement, a yellow entrance will welcome the passengers at the Deák Ferenc tér station. Then people can enter a modern transfer hall below the street level. There, the ruling colour will be warm grey, and it will be spacious. The cover of the renewed escalator is blue.
The corridor connecting the M2 and M3 metro lines will be futuristic and got a turquoise cover, BKV said.
There will be an elevator making the station accessible to the disabled. They built a new tunnel to the lift. Thus, the station will have three entrances.
